Towel
She excused herself
from me
on
the beach that day
and walked
back to the house
to
wash and clean up.
I soon followed
but
it wasn't soon enough.
She
had left.
She had left me behind
with a house full of
memories,
a
shaggy dog, a white cat,
and probably
the last thing
she
touched ...
something
for me to save
with the rest
of the memories
in
that box ...
hanging from a rack in the bathroom ...
a
sandy towel.
